Efficient and Cheaper

The Pool heat pumps Melbourne work the same way like the other heat pumps of pool owners who use them to heat the water in their swimming pools. All of them work using electricity (or gas) to circulate a refrigerant through the unit to extract free heat out of the air.

The pool heat pumps are popular in many other climates, not just those living in temperate zones. The goal is to use them for pools and spas for temperature maintenance, and not for fast heating.

Electricity

For those who use electricity in heating up their pools is actually doing the work by extracting the heat using the thermodynamics of evaporating and re-compressing refrigerants. This uses less electricity than having the same amount of heat with an electric heating element.

Using a pool heat pump eliminates the installation of a gas line. An extra advantage is the fact that heat pump pool heater does not release any emissions.

Mechanics

As the pool pump circulates the water in the swimming pool, the water drawn from the pool passes through a filter and the heat pump heater. The heat pump heater has a fan that draws in the outside air and directs it over the evaporator coil.

The liquid refrigerant inside the coil in the evaporator coil absorbs the heat from the outside air and becomes a gas. This warm gas in the coil then passes through the compressor. The compressor increases the heat creating a very hot gas that is then passed onto the condenser

The condenser transfers the heat from the hot gas to the cooler pool water circulating through the heater. The heated water then returns to the pool. The hot gas as it flows to the condenser coil returns to liquid form and back to the evaporator where the whole process starts again.

Additional notes

The higher efficiency heat pump pool heater usually use scroll compressor as against the reciprocal compressors of standard units.

These heaters are very efficient as long as the outside temperature remains above the 45-to 50 degree range. The cooler the outside air they draw in, the more energy they use.

However, since most people use outdoor swimming pools during warm and mild weather, this does not become an issue.

Choices

Heat pump pool heaters cost more than gas pool heaters. Both, however, have typically had much lower costs because they have higher efficiencies. With the proper maintenance, these heat pump pool heaters typically last longer than gas pool heaters.

When you select your heat pump pool heater, you need to consider its size, efficiency, and costs.

Sizing

Have a trained pool professional perform proper sizing analysis for your specific swimming pool to determine your pool heater size.

Sizing involves many factors. The first consideration is the surface area of the pool and the difference between the pool and the average air temperatures. The other factors include wind exposure, humidity levels and cool night temperatures.

Pools with higher average wind speeds, lower humidity and cool nights would need a larger heater.
